Mechanical Ventilations

  • Radovan Stojanovic, SMART4ALL, Some Ideas How To Make Cheap Portable Mechanical Respirator for COVID-19 Emergency? (An proposal)

In the moments when we are fighting the COVID-19 pandemic, we all very well remember the word “respirator”, artfully called mechanical ventilator. The demand on these devices is so great in the world that current manufacturers cannot satisfy even a small percentage of requirements. Biomedical engineers that help physicians around the world are trying to find a cheap solution that could be a first aid in case of respiratory problems and thus save at least one human life during this ruthless pandemic. Here we presents some ideas to built short term low cost mechanical ventilator for cases of emergencies during pandemic as COVID-19. It is based on automatised compresio-decompresion of clasical AMBU bag. Idea is not clinically tested and approved, and should be discussed? Then, opinions and discussions are welcome.

Telemedicine

Telemedicine can help people in time of COVID-19 Pandemic. Here you can find how free of charge tehe-conferencing tools can be used in remote health care. The idea is that medical doctor use those applications in communication with patients in during isolation.

OTHER IDEAS AND INITIATIVES

  • Prof. dr Lech Jozwiak, member of our team sent collection of good proposals about possible ventilator for COVID-19 based on idea which is used by more than 2000 researchers over the world: http://www.eeweb.com/profile/calimero22/articles/ventilators-for-covid-19

  • Promising project of MIT students on this topic. It is interesting to note that MIT students predicted such situation on 2010: http://e-vent.mit.edu/
  • Developing and sharing open source methodologies to safely test for the presence of SARS-CoV-2 using multiple approaches: http://app.jogl.io/project/118
  • Development of services on open source collaborative tools for schools, companies, public services to continue their activities as seamlessly as possible (next cloud, open project, Big Blue Button, redmine). Support and education on setting up, using and maintaining.
  • Development of automatically measuring people density in specific closed areas through image processing and triggering adequate alerts or/and notification of appropriate personnel. Simple cameras can be used to automatically measure how many people coexist in a specific indoor area (super marker, public services, cafeterias etc.) and most importantly measure the density of those people in specific points inside the designated area. Based on these measurements specific actions can be made/advices to reduce that density. Algorithms area not recording specific persons’ identities, characteristics or features just the number of people and the respective density. Hardware based implementation can make it cheaper, easier to be used and even integrated into specific embedded systems like mobile phones, cameras.
  • Integrate on IoT embedded systems small, low cost air analyzing sensors and aggregate air pollution data to a central backend infrastructure where machine learning algorithms can be applied to detect specific conditions related to the COVID-19 situation and not only. Design/develop the end-to-end infrastructure.
